DAY 9: Humbling & Emptying Ourselves That We May Be Filled

“For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” (Isaiah 57.15)

“I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.” (John 17.15-19)

“So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” (John 20.21.22)

“The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Rom. 5.5)

Dear Heavenly Father,
We turn to You now to align ourselves with You and with Your purposes. We surrender our lives and energies into Your hands. We are Yours and we make ourselves fully available to You, to do Your will and to be sent, in the power of the Holy Spirit, by You to the world around us as agents of Your love, mercy truth and good news.

We empty ourselves of our pride and self-reliance and choose to depend on You to guide and direct our steps. We loose ourselves from self and its demands, and bind ourselves to You

and to the plans You have for us. We recognize that, when we are united with You in Your death, burial and resurrection, we are no longer a part of this world but are liberated from its values and measurements to live by Your ways and under

We acknowledge that without Your Holy Spirit we are powerless to do this. We confess that we have relied too much on the power of organization, the power of administration, the power of money, the power of intellect, the power of routine and human energy, and too little on Your supernatural Power. We ask You now, as we empty ourselves of our opinions and ways that You will fill us afresh with Your Power and presence. Move again in new ways upon us and upon Your church throughout the world to mobilize us as a truly surrendered and humble people emptied of self and devoted to the extension of Your Kingdom of grace and mercy, totally dependent on the power and direction of Your Holy Spirit. Amen.
