PENTECOST - A Command To Wait & To Go A Great Commission "Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matt 28.18-20)
After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to more than 500 witnesses. First, He opened their eyes to understand the scriptures, then He instructed them about the Kingdom of God, and finally He charged them to proclaim the Good News of God's reconciliation of man to Himself (through His death and resurrection) to every corner of the world. This assignment, known as The Great Commission, remains as relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago.
Today millions pray for revival, seeking for the Spirit of God to sweep over our nations and draw people to the Lord and His congregations. As essential as prayer is - it must be accompanied by action. Prayer alone without GOING AND TELLING will not bring about the awakening we seek. It will take the entire Body of Christ doing its part to proclaim to the world what Jesus did to bring in this final harvest. To do this we need more than His Spirit within us (born again). We also need to "receive power" when the Holy Spirit comes UPON us for which He told us to wait. His disciples had already received the Holy Spirit within them on the day of the Resurrection when Jesus breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit" (John 20. 22) Now, about 40 days later, He instructed them to wait in Jerusalem until the Holy Spirit comes upon them to endue them with God's heavenly power. "And you are witnesses of these things. Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24.49-29) "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1.8) After instructing His followers to take the Good News to the world, Jesus told them to WAIT until His Spirit came upon them to equip them with the power to communicate the message. They were not simply to go with the message - their message was to be accompanied with the presence of the Holy Spirit within and the anointing power of the Holy Spirit upon them. When we all take our part in this Great Commission and receive the enduement of the Holy Spirit, we will ignite a Jesus cultural awakening and global reformation.
There are many great churches today where the Good News is preached and good living taught without mentioning the power of the Holy Spirit. Think what a difference it would make if all believers were not satisfied with receiving the Spirit within (born-again) but also welcomed and sought the Baptism of Power - the Spirit upon them.
The miracle of Pentecost continues today. This miracle where we receive the Holy Spirit to endue us with 'power from on high' is not just for the Pentecostal and charismatic churches but for ALL believers. "Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24,49) This is why the Book of Acts shows the disciples going everywhere preaching the gospel and urging people to receive the Holy Spirit. It also shows that they themselves constantly received fresh infillings of the mighty Spirit of God - the Promise of the Father - to empower and enable them carry out their calling. May everyone reading this receive a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit this Pentecost May 15th, 2026.
Wherever the good news is preached it should be accompanied by believers praying in tongues, laying hands on the sick for healing and expelling demons and tormenting spirits. This is not merely Pentecostal Christianity - it is normal Christianity. Don't buy into the lie that the miracles and signs of the book of Acts are not for today and not for YOU and every believer. "And these signs will accompany those who believe in my name they will expel demons; they will speak in new tongues’. They will lay hands on the sick and they will recover." (Mark 16.17-18)
Today an army of over one billion believers are turning to the Lord to Baptize them in the Holy Spirit and power - to continue the miracle of Pentecost sent as agents of His love truth salvation mercy, hope and healing to the world around them.
Take time out this Pentecost to receive the Holy Spirit in greater fulness.
